Surfaces that experience a lot of foot or vehicle traffic need extra protection. For instance, a busy walkway, or parking deck face constant wear and exposure to the elements. As a result, they tend to deteriorate over time. Well, this is where traffic coatings come in because they act as a protective layer and help surfaces last longer than usual.

Before you look for traffic coating contractors in Toronto, it is worth educating yourself about the different coating types, so you can make the right choice. Traffic coatings are an easy way to prevent early damage and reduce repair costs over time.

    • Penetrating Sealers

Penetrating sealers are affordable and a light protective option, making it ideal for surfaces or walls that experience less foot traffic. This coating soaks into the surface instead of sitting on top and creates a breathable barrier that is resistant to both chemicals and water. However, they aren’t made for heavy use and not slip resistant, which is why you will find them mostly on vertical structures.

    • Epoxy Coatings

If durability is your priority, epoxy coatings are the best option for you. They are especially good in commercial or industrial settings where the surfaces experience a large volume of traffic. The good thing is, that epoxy coatings can be customised with different finishes and textures based on your liking. Plus, they offer excellent wear resistance and help prevent moisture build-up beneath the surface. However, they are best used on surfaces that don’t move or shift because epoxy is more rigid than other coating types.

    • Cementitious Coatings

For areas with medium foot traffic, cement-based coatings are a good fit because they keep out water and stand strong against chemicals. Not only that, but they also smell less because of low VOC content. You can use these coatings on a wide range of surfaces like concrete, wood, tile, and pool decks. However, they lack flexibility and don’t last more than 3 to 5 years.

Choosing the right coating is an essential part of the process. No matter, what surface you are trying to protect, it offers durable results, so you don’t need to restore it soon.
